The Exmouth Stroke Survivors and Family Club has a rich history rooted in personal experience and community need. It has grown from a small group meeting in a cafe to an award-winning organization supporting dozens of local residents.
Founding and Early Years (2009–2020)
The club was founded in 2009 by Len Worsfold, who established it as a space for survivors and their families to share experiences and find solace.

Humble Beginnings: The group first met in November 2012 in a local cafe, serving as a vital talking point for those feeling isolated after a stroke.
In-House Innovation: In the early years, Len and his wife Jan developed specialized exercise equipment, including a machine that used both hands and feet to build strength. Jan even hand-made gloves to help survivors with severe strokes grip the pedals.
Technology & Grants: The club later purchased Able-X units—interactive games like "swatting mosquitoes"—using grants from the Co-op, the Masons, and the Lions to help members exercise their minds and bodies simultaneously.
New Leadership and Growth (2021–Present)
The club entered a new chapter in February 2021 when Len Worsfold stepped down for medical reasons, and Steve (Stephen) Beer took over the leadership.

Post-COVID Rebuilding: Under Steve’s leadership, the club grew significantly, expanding from just a handful of people to over 75 members.
Expanding the Mission: Steve, a stroke survivor himself, broadened the club's reach to include anyone in the community feeling lonely or in need of a "Warm Welcome" space.
Location Transitions: Meetings originally held at the Exmouth Pavilion moved to council buildings and the Bidmead Community Centre before settling at their current home, All Saints Church Hall.
